Jody, Mom of 5 (teenagers on up!) and a grandmother
I am a pre-menopausal mother of five... two teenaged daughters, and three older sons, one of whom just completed his second tour in Iraq. I have literally changed thousands of diapers in my years as a mother and more recently as a grandmother. I dream... nay, I live for the day when the proverbial reversal of roles kick in and my kids have the pleasure of changing my diapers.

New Year’s Resolution

January 7, 2009 — Jody @ 12:05 pm

I’ve never been good at keeping resolutions.  For many years I refused to make any for the simple reason… you can’t break one if you don’t make one first.

Three years ago I resolved to start making more home cooked meals.  My middle son was so excited about the prospect of breaking out of the ‘heat-n-serve’ diet we had been on for so long that he went out and invested in some really cool high tech cooking gadgets for me.  To this day, dispite the fact that I now work in the evenings, I still manage to prepare 3 course home cooked meals for the family at least 4 nights a week.

That is probably the only New Year’s Resolution I have ever kept.

With that in mind I didn’t exactly make a resolution for myself this year.  Nope, I did something better.

I made resolutions for everyone else!

For the year 2009 I resolve that everyone will be nicer to each other.  They will clean up after themselves and take care of their own commitments rather than leave them for me to deal with.  They will wash their own stinky laundry (yeah Moms, you can make your kids do that when they get older… something to look forward to… if you can ever manage to enforce it.  I’m obviously still working on that one.)

It seems simple enough but with my crew plus my nephew and my husband running interference there has not yet been one successful minute in this 7 day old year that was in keeping with the resolutions.  Perhaps I’ve set the bar too high, but any lower and it would be laying on the floor.

I considered to resolve cutting back on my alcohol intake but perhaps this isn’t the year for that.  Maybe next year.

Only 358 days until 2010!
