Overheard on the phone…
Just so you know that running MA! isn’t all funny words and pretty art, here’s a snapshot of the ‘meeting’ Tiffany and I had today…
Tiffany lives in Colorado Springs and I live in Denver, which means we are separated by 60 miles. In order to meet, we both have to drive to Castle Rock, a town somewhat between us. Today, I was at the girls’ school for a morning performance that Allie’s class was doing. When I emerged, I received two texts and a vmail from Tiffany.
Her nanny was sick. Time to regroup.
We connected on the phone and agreed that, for her sanity, we shouldn’t try to force a meeting (she had already called at least two people to pinch-hit on the nanny front, to no avail, and she had already placated Emerson with a movie). We agreed to meet by phone as soon as she could get Emerson engrossed in another show. (Have I mentioned how guilt-inducing it is for us to run a business about motherhood as we neglect our OWN children?)
We also agreed to NO TANGENTS! The beautiful thing about this partnership is that, when we talk, our brains work about 90 miles an hour and we follow nearly every thought into nearly every rabbit hole. But today had to be different. We had to focus on the priority at-hand: more free e-cards! (That’s a teaser, by the way.)
We had half an hour before Tiffany had to pick Eli up from preschool. GO GO GO!

TIFFANY: I think I can get that art done by the end of (background noise) by the end of… Emerson! By the end of January.
JANALEE: That’s right around the corner. What if we say by the first week in February.
TIFFANY: OK, sounds good. (background noise)
JANALEE: But you know, we need to update the home page.
TIFFANY: Right. Emerson, honey… Hang on, Janalee. I think I need to put on something more obnoxious. (I can hear her sorting through movies.) Ahhhhh, this’ll do it. The Wiggles! Oh wait. Divorce Court is coming on. Should I…? No no no. Wiggles… (I hear “fruit salad, yummy yummy” come on) OK, I’m back. Apparently Dr. Suess is just to bland for her today…

I’m here to tell you, though, that we accomplished our goals and we have a plan! And we’ve got another meeting scheduled this Friday in Castle Rock! phew.
Wish us luck!

I am the writer/owner of ‘MA! motherhood with attitude.’ The artist/owner of our company, Tiffany, will add her two cents on this blog now and then, as well. Tiffany and I often talk about the struggle to earn a buck through our freelancing as we also try to make the ‘MA! dream’ come true. Our mission is to expose ‘perfect parenting propaganda’ for what it is: hogwash! We adore imperfect parents (and embrace the fact that we are among them.)
HA! That totally cracked me up! Dead on…not a word of embellishment, folks. Its even still funny from the perspective of Friday afternoon, knowing that I cancelled our meeting AGAIN because *I* was sick this time.
Such is the life of a mompreneur.
